Contenu pour l'année 2023-24:
Phonological Diversity in English: Regional Accents and Sociolinguistic Factors
This course focuses on the comparative phonology of American and British English providing some preparatory work for the phonology paper of the French Agrégation exam. Through linguistic analysis, students will explore phonological patterns, pronunciation variations, and voice characteristics in these English varieties. Practical exercises and in-depth exploration will sharpen analytical skills, while (re)learning phonetic symbols will enable accurate transcription and analysis. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the phonological systems of the two standard accents (RP and GA), as well as additional insights into regional and social variations.
