- Introduction. Interests and specificities of the two familly of chromatography (gas and liquid). Transport mode, separation modes and dispersion effects.
- Instrumentation of the two chromatographic modes. Injection, evolution of new stationary phases, dectection mode (FID, UV, MS)...
- Introduction to sample preparation for the application before analysis by chromatography.

In the term of the lecture, the students should be able:
- To understand the principles used specifically in chromatography and mass spectrometry.
- To identify the difference between gas and liquid chromatography
- To understand the plate theory and the kinetic theory in chromatography.
- To explain the techniques and the problems that could occurred
- To know the role of the different part of a mass spectrometer (source, analyzer, detector)
- To understand the concept of fragmentation and structural characterization
